| ICE – “In Case of Emergency” |
|
Last year the Ambulance Service helped hundreds of UCC students, their friends and families. Both on and off campus, everything from too much alcohol, to Road Traffic Accidents. We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn’t know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this ‘ICE’ (In Case of Emergency) Campaign. Meer info: The concept of ‘ICE’ is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name ‘ICE’ ( In Case Of Emergency). The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents there were always mobile phones with patients but they didn’t know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognised name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialling the number you have stored as ‘ICE’. Please forward this/post on your blog/forum. It won’t take too many ‘forwards’ before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one’s mind at rest. Voor meerdere contacten gewoonweg ICE1, ICE2 en ICE3 etc. ingeven. In geval van een medische toestand, kunt u bv. ingeven “ICE: Mam. Epilepsy”, “ICE: Jane (GF). Diabetes”. FAQs: 1) WONT PARAMEDICS JUST CALL HOME, MUM, DAD? Answer: Not everyones mum or dad are still alive, some people do not have landlines. If you do still have mum and dad in your phone putting ICE after the name will help emergency services know which person to contact. 2) MY PHONE WILL NOT LET ME SAVE THE SAME NUMBER IN MY PHONE AS MUM AND ICE WHAT CAN I DO? answer: If your phone will not let you store ICE as a separate number then after MUM write ICE. 3) WHY SHOULD I WRITE ICE IF I ALREADY HAVE MUM AND DAD ON MY PHONE? answer: you may wish to have a close friend or partner as your emergency contact person. For this simply store as E.G. ICE – SIMON (BF) OR ICE – LUCY (if lucy is just a friend then they will ring her up to find out how she knows the person in trouble) INDIEN U AL MAM EN PAP IN UW TELEFOON HEEFT GEBRUIK DAN DE 'ICE' CODE NA HUN NAAM.R NAME. PLEASE DO NOT SAVE MUM AND DAD JUST AS ICE CONTACTS IF YOUR PHONE DOESNT LET YOU SAVE 2 NUMBERS…AS IF YOUR FRIEND FINDS YOU ON THE STREET THEY MAY NOT KNOW TO LOOK FOR ‘ICE’ HET IS BELANGRIJGK OM MAM, PAP, THUIS ETC IN DE TELEFOON TE HOUDEN, MAAR ICE WORDT GEBRUIKT ALS AANVULLING OP DEZE CONTACTEN VOOR MEDISCHE PROFESSIONALS OM DE PERSOON THE KUNNEN BELLEN DIE JIJ WILT DAT GEBELD WORD IN GEVAL VAN NOOD.
